Urgency, passion and bravado provide the blueprint for all great rock and roll. Since joining his first band at the age of 12 (NYC hardcore legands Agnostic Front) Todd Youth has studied that blueprint and constructed an incredible career. At 15, a US arena tour with The Beastie Boys became his proving ground as he handled guitar duties for Murphy's Law in the jaunt's opening slot. Youth looks back with a smile--"We were basically a bunch of crazy kids from New York who had never left the tri-state area, and we were suddenly playing arenas. It was my first tour!" After touring and making records for almost ten years with Murphy's Law, he wanted a change of pace--So he picked up the axe and joined D-Generation, embarking on national tours supporting Green Day and releasing several major label albums. "At that time, New York was really hot again because D-Generation was happening and all of these other bands came out in their wake. No one ever blew up out of it, but it was a really cool and very decadent time." After parting ways with D-Generation in 1999, Todd riffed for the legendary Danzig until 2003. During his downtime, he managed to play with everyone from Debbie Harry of Blondie, to Johnny Thunders old partner in crime Walter Lure, to Motörhead. But he'd never had a band he could call his own--Until now... On The Chelsea Smiles's Acetate Records debut, "Thirty Six Hours Later," the singer/guitarist injects his experience and charisma into every track, crafting a record that draws from every influence that drove him to pick up a guitar in the first place. "In between Danzig tours, I put this together to have fun and play some high energy rock and roll." That high energy rock functions as the catalyst for a tangible explosion of energy, both live and on the album. "It's all about immediacy," says Youth. "It's about capturing the moment. It's not about ProTool-ing it to death. We went into the studio where we did our demos and we did this record the way that we wanted to. We recorded and mixed it in 36 hours--That's why it's called 'Thirty Six Hours Later.' No one was over-analyzing anything. The final record was just what this band is..." The resulting album melds the fire of grit of old-school punk a la The Stooges, with the metallic bombast and hooks of classic KISS. A lesson in hard rock, cuts like "Nothing Wrong," "Built to Last" and "Heart Attack" bear the marks of The New York Dolls with a new-found vitality. The riffs pack a prize-fight punch and the solos sport a bluesy soul, while the rhythm section grooves along infectiously. It's a complete step up from the band's first Capitol Records 4-song EP. "It's rock and roll, man. It's not supposed to be serious. It's made for people to have fun and let loose." Youth has made sure that The Chelsea Smiles rekindle that fire of early punk and gutter rock in every aspect: from their live show, to their work ethic, to their image. "We're a hard-working band. We rehearse hard. We play hard. We'll play anywhere, anytime. Everyone's heart is 100 percent into this. They believe in everything, right down to the way the band looks. I was always drawn to bands like The Ramones or The Clash, and those bands looked like gangs to me. I wanted something that just had the whole package." Guitarist Skye Vaughn Jayne (Ex-Bullets and Octane), bassist Johnny Martin and drummer Karl Rosqvist round out Todd's gang of 21st century rock outlaws. The band's chemistry in the studio and onstage is undeniable. Martin anchors down a propulsive low end as Rosqvist steers the songs with the pounding rhythms of a man possesed. Meanwhile, Jayne swaps leads, licks and vocals with Youth. The band's tight musical bond stems from one common influence. "In this band we have one link between all of us, and that's early KISS. Everybody in this band completely worships KISS, up until the "Dynasty" record. To me, KISS is a classic, dirty New York City rock and roll band. You need to come from that musical background to really play it." Having toured with artists including Social Distortion, Backyard Babies, The Datsuns and the New York Dolls, The Chelsea Smiles continue to deliver their own brand of "dirty rock and roll" at each and every gig, continuing that legacy. "Playing music is all I've ever done, all I've ever wanted to do, and probably all I ever will do," Youth concludes, "and I'm totally ok with that." And once crowds catch The Chelsea Smiles, everyone will agree--That's all he ever needs to do.

CONFUSE THE CAT

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness.

In Belgio già spopolano e hanno avuto modo di accompagnare band come Archie Bronson Outfit e HGH, Killing Joke, Charlotfield, New Model Army, Bob Mould, Nick Cave, Art Brut, Great Lake swinners, Karate.

Sabato 14: SQUARTET (It, jazzpunk, ex Demodé)
Squartet is a three-piece instrumental band born from punk, corrupted by funk, de-evolved into noise, with a taste for be-bop. Its music is better served live, at high volume, so that your nerves are in turn tensed and relaxed; sung parts are missing and replaced by schizophrenic, restless guitar lines. Squartet’s full-length album has been released by its own label, Jazzcore Inc.

Tokyo Sex Destruction have probably had the most metheorical ascension for a BCore band. Because since their debut in 2002 it's been only three years for such an extreme hyper-activity. More than 150 gigs per year, three long-play albums and two EPs are a lot of work, and also the reason of their success. A success that has trespassed spanish frontiers to make them an band with european entity, being nowadays France and Germany the best markets for their music. Everything started with the aggressive electricity of their debut "Le Red Soul Communitee (10 points program)" in 2002, a discharge of garage-punk full of social awareness, that put them from night to day in the first line of spanish rock 'n roll scene. That was the moral injection needed by this potentially huge band to reach an outstanding position. With the benefit of audience and media they decided that it was the right time to take it seriously and tour and record continuously until nowadays. A vinyl single split with Zeidun through SixWasNine Records, followed by the EP "The big red box for the syndicate of emotions" in 2003 also released in Germany by Trans Solar Records. Then the splendid "Black noise is the new sound!" (BCore, 04), record that made them big in France as never happened before with a BCore band. And then in 2005 a new record, "5th Avenue South", the most diverse and artistically successful work to date, where garage-punk is everytime more soul-driven and psychedelia flows freely in their most interesting songs!

Venerdì 20: TRAKTOR (Svezia)

www.myspace.com/traktorbiz
Chaotic hardcore tra The Crimson Curse - Refused e The Blood Brothers

Traktor was formed in Eskilstuna, Sweden in the beginning of the year 2002 by the three steady members David, Rickard and Fredrik. The goal was to create groovy San Diego rock with lots of crazy riffs. The lineup was drums, bass, guitar and two voices. The band began to write songs and recorded a six track demo, which after a lot of hassle with different small labels was released as a seven inch record by German label My Favorite Toy and later also by English label Art For Blind. This recording took place in the Swedish town of Uppsala in Studio EAR with Carl Vikman (Seven feet four, Switchblade, Soviac, the Price of ink etc).
Traktor made their stage debut in their hometown at the end of the summer of 2002, the debut was followed by lots of gigs all over the country while they were working on new material. In the spring of 2003 they went to Studio EAR once again to record six new songs, which later resulted in an s/t cd ep on My Favorite Toy. The speed and the playfulness from the first recording were still there but it was a new and more dynamic Traktor that ended up on tape.
Throughout 2003 the band started to work on new songs for a full-length album. During the summer of 2004 the recording evolved, as usual together with Carl Vikman in studio EAR. 13 songs were captured on tape. The sound was now a bit more mature but the trademark Traktor noise was still there. Among the band's influences could bands like Blood Brothers and Shellac together with tons more be mentioned.
Another 2 tours took place in 2005. One around Germany and another close to Sweden.
In the end of 2005 Georgios made his entrance as a second guitarist. The sound now got larger and also the possibilities for more of the good. The live performance also got a real boost, with four guys to watch instead of three.
The "lights" album was released in February 2006 and was followed up by a one-month tour in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, France and the Netherlands. After the tour Traktor has played some various shows in Sweden and recorded some songs for a 7"(released in summer -06 on Cut 'n Paste Records) but mostly concentrated in writing new songs for the upcoming fullength album.

Northern brew of great strength and gravity, Centurions Ghost have been creating music with a formidable punch since 2001. The group formed when original vocalist James Begley and Richard Whittaker (Bass) got together and driven by their love of British Metal scoured the London scene for like-minded individuals. Stumbling from one unwholesome watering hole to another they found, Milly (drums) who at the time played with Exile On Mainsteam signed band End Of Level Boss and Dan 138 (guitar) who also decomposes his own brand of atmospheric filmic score. Since this historical gathering the group have gone through various line-up changes and have worked hard and got the notice they deserved leading to them being voted 3rd Best Unsigned band in the Terrorizer end of year poll 2003 and 2004 respectively and 7th Best Newcomer in 2005! Musically they are a critics worst nightmare being heralded as a doom, black and death metal band. In fact they are a mixture of all of these, constructing songs that have an epic flow and overwhelming heaviosity. The bands influences are far too extensive to list as each member brings their own style and sound to the ghostly cauldron. However, in recent reviews Centurions Ghost have been likened to that of Celtic Frost, Venom, Candlemass, Usurper, Entombed, and Cathedral. Following their initial self titled demo (which sold out and is now a collectors item) the band contributed to various compilations such as, A Dark World on Final Chapter Records. In November 2005 Centurions Ghost unleashed A Sign Of Things To Come through Swedish metal label I Hate Records and remarkably the first pressing has already totally sold out!! A Sign Of Things To Come has received rave reviews throughout the world here are some excerpts from recent articles

--------------------------

The Gates Of Slumber is no mere band. It is, we like to think, a way of life.

The Gates Of Slumber give no quarter; we make no apologies, and we will not tolerate fools. Weaned on the majesty of Black Sabbath, the power of St. Vitus, the melodic might and gallop of Iron Maiden and a hodgepodge of classic bands from Thin Lizzy to Rainbow to Mercyful Fate, the Gates draw deep from heavy metal's most powerful blood to stake our claim.

Live on your knees, disconnected from the past and the promise of your future, and the fate that awaits should come as no surprise. Choose to stand apart, to live free, and you will know what it means to walk with purpose and to march over the bones of your enemies.

The band arose in the dark winter of 1998, born of the imagination of founder/vocalist/guitarist Karl Simon. The band coalesced around his disgust with trendy false-metal & "stoner rock" bands at the time. The goal: to drown the upstarts in their own gore!

Jason McCash brought his low-end bass tone and superior song-craft to the Gates in 2001 and together the pair have blazed a trail of True Doom Metal across their native American soil and Europe. A handful of drummers have added their impressive skills and creative talents to this Metal Rock golem: Chuck Brown, Chris "The Fist" Gordon, and current skinsman Iron Bob Fouts.

The Gates Of Slumber's sophomore album, Suffer No Guilt (I Hate), is a mission statement for those who recognize the awesome might of the truth within heavy music. With artwork from famed painter Ken Kelly (Rainbow, Manowar, Kiss), the album has been called a 'masterpeice' by some in the underground. Favorable comparisons to Rainbow's 'Rising' and Manowar's 'Into Glory Ride' have been a common critical theme. Suffer No Guilt's brazen display of power has impressed everyone who has heard it. And on the merits of the music there in has earned highly favorable reviews in the more mainstream Metal publications: Terrorizer and Decible. Capped with an impressive four "K" review in seminal Metal Magazine Kerrang!.

Suffer No Guilt follows a no-less awe-inspiring back catalog, stretching back to the now cult Sabbath Witch demo recordings. The band's debut album, The Awakening... (Final Chapter), followed suit, with collectors snatching up copies of the prized ...Like A Plague Upon the Land EP (Hellride) and the 12" single spawned by Suffer No Guilt, God Wills It, released on the band's own Slumbering Souls imprint.

Stand up and be counted!!! The weak shall tremble as the mighty rise up and take what's theirs from the pretenders!
-------------------------

Earthride are a another incredible band from the Doom Capitol/ Maryland, the fertile breeding ground that has spawned: Pentagram, Internal Void, Wretched, Iron Man, Unorthodox, and of course Spirit Caravan. In fact, there's connections to some of these bands, drummer Eric Little was in Internal Void, and singer Dave Sherman was in Wretched and also played bass in Spirit Caravan (along with sharing vocal duties with guitar god, Wino).

The bands first offering was a self-produced, self-titled 4song EP/CD on their own label: Earth Brain records (2000). This recording coupled with their relentless live shows quickly proved Earthride was more than just "Sherms' side project. The Earthride sound is a brutal combination of Sherms' whiskey burned, Lemmy-esque vokills trainwrecked into a punishing mountain of doom. One listen to the mammoth wall of guitar that Kyle (sonic titan) Van Steinburg blankets over the concrete rythym section and its obvious that Earthride holds their own.
"Taming of the Demons" is the bands first official full-length recording and was recorded by acclaimed producer Chris Koslowski (Pentagram, Spirit Caravan, Internal Void, the Obsessed) in their hometown of Maryland. The band adopted phrase: "PURE MARYLAND DOOM FOR THE BROTHERHOOD OF MUSIC", sufficiently sums up that the strength of this band lies in their unified dedication to produce hard, no frills heavy music! 2002 will be the year that Earthride takes us by the throat and demands immediate attention...or our
drugs...
